All over the world women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Every two minutes there is another woman that finds out that she has this disease. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.
Breast cancer is the result of cells in the breast becoming malignant and developing into a tumor.
Nobody knows exactly what causes breast cancer, but there are some risk factors that may increase a person’s chance of getting a disease such as cancer. Family history, Genetic risk factors, Age, Personal history of breast cancer are risks that we cannot change, and these are just a part of them.
This is the reason why women have to learn to self – exam and in this way to detect the early signs. This early signs are new lump or mass, skin dimpling, change in skin color or texture, change in how the nipple looks, clear or bloody fluid that leaks out of the nipple.
How to self-exam
Stand in front of a mirror. Now with your hands up, look at your breasts. Do this also with your hands on your hips and your chest muscles flexed.
Lie down with a pillow under your shoulders. Put your left hand behind your head and feel your left breast with the pads of the 3 middle fingers on your right hand. Start at the outer edge and work around your breast in circles, getting closer to your nipple with each circle. After you’ve finished checking your breast, squeeze your nipple gently and look for discharge (fluid coming out of the nipple). You should do the same with your right breast two.
You should look for lumps, skin dimpling, change in skin color or texture, change in how the nipple looks, clear or bloody fluid that leaks out of the nipple.
